POST TITLE : Part-time Lecturer – Level 1 Sport

PURPOSE OF POST
Provide high-quality teaching, to create effective opportunities for learning and to enable all learners to achieve to the best of their ability.
GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES
All colleagues employed directly in connection with the teaching and learning experiences of students are expected to meet the standards for teaching and support of learning in further education. All staff are expected to support the College’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
COLLEGE RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to the generic responsibilities referred to above, all colleagues employed directly in connection with the teaching and learning experiences of students at Stratford upon Avon College are expected to undertake the following College related responsibilities.
1. Flexibility
Work flexibly as part of a team with cross-College responsibilities.
2. Pastoral Care
Undertake a limited role as personal tutor to a group or groups of students, if appropriate.
3. Curriculum Development
Contribute to curriculum development.
4. Marketing
Assist with the recruitment, admission and enrolment of students and the marketing of courses in particular, and the College in general.
5. Quality Assurance
Participate fully in undertaking all appropriate aspects of the College’s Quality Assurance systems.
6. Equal Opportunities
Adhere to and to promote, the College’s policy on equal opportunities, entitlement and inclusiveness.
7. Staff and continuous Professional Development
As identified, participate fully in all activities designed to improve the quality of individual, team and College performance.
8. Health and Safety
Implement College Health and Safety systems and procedures.

Undertake other commensurate duties as may be required from time to time.
HOURS OF WORK
The postholder will be required to work for up to 11 hours per week as agreed and identified on the postholder’s timetable for the relevant academic year.
CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU
From time to time you may be required to undertake duties that involve unrestricted contact with children or vulnerable adults, therefore the offer of employment is subject to a satisfactory Standard/Enhanced Disclosure statement from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). A copy of the CRB’s Code of Practice is available on request.

JOB ROLE DUTIES
You will be required to teach sport with a focus on Level 1 Sport and Active Leisure Learners.
LECTURING STAFF DIFFERENTIALS

Full-time Academic Staff
|
Full-time Academic staff undertake the full range of duties as set out in the appropriate job description based on a nominal 37 hours per week.

Associate Lecturers
|
Associate Lecturers undertake the full range of duties as specified in the job description but for the appropriate percentage as set out in their contract based on 37 hours per week.
Associate Lecturers are expected to be in College outside of their contracted teaching times and to attend appropriate staff development and team meetings.

Part-time Variable Hours Teaching Staff
|
Part-time Variable Hours Teaching staff are paid on an hourly rate to reflect, in addition to teaching time, preparation and marking.
Part-time Variable Hours Teaching staff are not expected to be involved in the development of curriculum materials other than to support their own delivery.
There is no expectation that part-time staff will remain on the College premises outside of their teaching. However, should the member of staff wish to avail themselves of College facilities, limited provision is made to enable them to do so.
Part-time Variable Hours Teaching staff are not contractually required to attend staff development events. Where it is essential that they do attend, a further payment will be made.
Part-time Variable Hours Teaching staff would not normally be involved in course development; where they are involved, a further payment would be made in accordance with the base hourly rate of pay appropriate to the individual’s contractual pay point.
Part-time Variable Hours Teaching staff do not support students on work experience unless separately contracted to do so.
Part-time Variable Hours Teaching staff may be required to attend open evenings, careers events, progress evenings, student admissions and other such events for which an additional payment will be made at the base hourly rate of pay appropriate to the individual’s contractual pay point.

Qualifications
Appropriate specialist qualification(s) in your area of expertise eg Advanced Craft Certificate, Degree etc. Essential*
(NB Qualifications will normally be held at the minimum level of NVQ 3/4 although in exceptional circumstances relevant experience will be taken into consideration).
Full Level 5 Teacher Training Qualification (equivalent to PCET, PGCE or Certificate in Education) CTLLS and DTLLS Essential*

*If these qualifications are not present, they must be acquired as set out in an individual training plan. Progression through the pay band will be linked to qualification achievement.

3. Appointments
At the conclusion of the interview process, candidates will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible. At this point, it is hoped that any candidate who receives an offer of employment will be able to give an immediate verbal answer. Assuming acceptance, the College will confirm in writing the offer of appointment together with a provisional salary and start date.
All offers of employment made by the College are subject to the following:
1. Documentary evidence of qualifications and verification of date of birth.
2. Documents evidencing proof of permission to work in the UK. Copies of these documents will be retained for the duration of your employment.
3. Two references satisfactory to the College, one should be from either a current or previous employer.
4. Evidence of medical fitness. Following interview, successful candidates will be required to complete a medical questionnaire after which they may be required to undergo a medical examination and/or chest X-ray.
5. Completion of a satisfactory 12 months probationary period.
