TimJones200

Tim Jones, a bricklaying student at Stratford-upon-Avon College, came second in The Guild of Bricklayers West Midlands Region competition.

Tim came second in the regional competition held at Warwickshire College’s Rugby campus. He is a full-time student at the College studying for his Diploma in Bricklaying qualification.

Alan McDermott, lecturer at the College, commented, “Tim joined the College in September 2009 as a mature student and with no bricklaying skills. He has worked hard over the last couple of years to develop some very good bricklaying skills and achieve a high standard of work. Tim was nominated to compete in the competition earlier this year and fought off strong competitors from other colleges. We are delighted he did so well recently in the competition.”

Tim was supported on the day of the competition by college lecturers, Jason Andrews and Alan McDermott. He has recently set up his own business in construction following the completion of his course.

The Guild of Bricklayers is an association that was founded in 1932. It aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork. The regional competitions form part of the national Building Craft competition scene, which lead to a National Final competition. Sponsors of the competition include Wienerberger, Tarmac Mortars and Buildbase.
