Stratford-upon-Avon College supports Stratford on Avon District Council by running the Official Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Centre was opened on Saturday 15th May 2010 following the closure of the original TIC run by South Warwickshire Tourism at the end of March 2010. The College worked closely with the District Council in setting up the new Centre in Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon to ensure the continuity of the tourism service to the local community and businesses.

The new TIC has already provided assistance to over 35,000 visitors and the numbers are growing steadily. It is managed and staffed by Stratford-upon-Avon College and offers a wide range of services including last minute accommodation booking, the retail of books, guides and locally-produced products, advice and information on attractions, transport and shopping and ticket sales for attractions.

More recently, the College has recruited employed Apprentices at the Centre to study and gain experience in the tourism sector. These Apprentices are gaining knowledge and skills working in Henley Street and may in the future work in various sector businesses in the local area. The Apprentices complement the experienced staff at the TIC, some who previously worked in the previous TIC.

Martin Penny, Principal commented, “We are delighted that we are able to support the town and local area in this way. Stratford-upon-Avon College was the first college in the country to receive the Training Quality Standard with excellence in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism which highlights our outstanding reputation in this field.”

Peter Ward-Brown, Manager at the TIC said, “Our immediate focus is on the promotion of accommodation, attractions and food & drink for the Stratford District area but through dialogue with local, tourism-related businesses we intend to develop a wider range of ‘pay as you go’ services to support their activities. Presently under consideration are a visitor discount card scheme, an Internet Café within the TIC and the provision of individual, personal travel itineraries.
