The presentation, which took place last month, was delivered by local driving examiners and facilitated group discussion alongside clips from a DVD showing the Department for Transport ‘THINK Campaign’ footage, experiences of real young people and a striking drama to communicate simple, yet key, road safety messages. The presentation focused on a number of issues including the dangers of drinking and taking drugs when driving as well the negative consequences of speeding.

The DSA is dedicated to influencing young people’s attitudes towards road safety and driving safely once their driving test has been passed. The presentation is specifically aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 19. Its messages include adopting the correct attitude towards the responsibilities of a driver after passing the test.

Rob Woodward, Entry 2 Employment tutor, commented, “This was a very enjoyable and interactive session for our learners. The trainer maintained their interest the whole time by asking them questions, soliciting their opinions and getting them to identify hazards in a series of short films. We are seeking to arrange two visits a year from the Arrive Alive presenters as the college recognizes how essential it is to ensure that its students are well educated in the importance of safe driving.”
