Stratford-upon-Avon College welcomed police and sniffer dogs to its campus this week as part of its ongoing commitment to educating young people on health and welfare issues.

For the second consecutive year, the college approached Warwickshire Police to arrange a visit as it is keen to work with them for the good of the local community. The college runs a comprehensive educational programme through its tutorial system to ensure that students are aware of the dangers of taking drugs. The police were available on Tuesday, 27^th April, to give advice to students and to discuss the procedures and consequences for people who use illegal substances. They also demonstrated the skills of sniffer dogs in their drug-related work. Warwickshire Police’s “Stratford Town Safer Neighbourhood Team” sees exercises such as this critical in the promotion of its ‘zero tolerance’ approach to drugs.

Stratford-upon-Avon College has a designated mobile police outpost. This presence allows staff and students to discuss any concerns they have and provide an ongoing dialogue with the police. The police are able to use the college’s premises and access administrative resources if required. Community Support Officers also make regular visits to the campus to support the college with its many awareness campaigns. 

The college is wholly committed to the welfare of its students and thus runs health awareness projects throughout the year in addition to an annual young drivers’ campaign.
