Following the monumental success earlier this year of Musicals ROCK!, Musical Theatre students from Stratford-upon-Avon College present ‘The Secret Garden’.
Second year BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) students have been busy rehearsing over the last few months for ‘The Secret Garden’, their final performance on the course. This enchanting classic of children’s literature is re-imagined in brilliant musical style by composers Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman.
Alex Dengate, Musical Theatre Lecturer at the College, commented, “The Secret Garden – The Musical is a magical tale set with a sensational score. The cast really do bring the world of Frances Hodgson Burnett to life – this promises to be the best and most highly anticipated performance of the season here at Stratford-upon-Avon College.”
Orphaned in India in 1906, 11 year old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive Uncle Archibald and his invalid son, Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers”, spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatising The Secret Garden’s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.
Performances will be taking place at Stratford-upon-Avon College on 28th June – 2nd July at 7:30pm (2:30pm on 2nd July). Tickets are available from the College’s Box Office (boxoffice@stratford.ac.uk or 01789 266245) at £8 (£5). We are expecting extremely high demand for this show, so book early to avoid disappointment for this spectacular musical performance.
