Young composers from Stratford-upon-Avon College are premiering their own new, original pieces of music at a concert in the College’s latest collaboration with The Orchestra of the Swan.
The ‘Crossover’ project, a showcase event for final year students on the National Diploma in Music at the College, sees each student compose, notate and perform a new work tailored to fuse together their own ‘Popular Music’ influences and background with that of their Classical/traditional counterparts; a quartet from the Orchestra.
Music lecturer and leader of the project Tom Haines said, “This hugely successful project marks a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore their own creativity with very ‘real-life’ results as they gain insight and experience of the professional world of the composer; the expectations, demands and discipline of composing, notating, rehearsing and performing with professional Classical Musicians. The results are truly inspiring”.
The concert takes place in the New Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon College on Friday 17th June 2011 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01789 266245 or boxoffice@stratford.ac.uk| priced at £6 (£4 concessions).
