Film Studies is an academic and practical course that is both challenging and enjoyable.
If you enjoy watching and discussing films, this course will be perfect for you!
A level Film Studies builds on your personal knowledge of cinema and focuses on the ways that films are made as well as the ways that the audience receives them.
This is a popular academic subject and is well respected by universities; students have previously progressed to study Film undergraduate degrees at Russell Group universities such as Warwick and Exeter. It is recommended that you combine Film Studies with subjects such as Media Studies, Sociology, English Literature, Photography and Drama and Theatre Studies to complete your A level programme. Candidates will develop essential skills in textual analysis, critical thinking and independent investigation to support progression to higher education or employment.
Film Studies will enable you to gain a greater understanding of cinema both as a commercial product and as an art form. Enrichment activities will also be included to support your learning; recent trips have included visits to The Regal Cinema in Evesham, The Electric Cinema and IMAX Cinema in Birmingham and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.
Assessment is 70% written examination and 30% coursework.
