Where will this course lead?

On successful completion of the first year of this course, you will be asked to join us for the final year and study for the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business. You will have several options once you have completed both years including an apprenticeship, a place in a university, or employment. We will support with any of the options you decide and help you through the UCAS or application process.

What will I study?

All Level 3 Business qualifications have an element of exam-based and controlled assessment. You will study 6 units in your course, 2 of which will be externally assessed and 4 of which will be internally assessed using a variety of different types of assignments. You will be continually assessed through individual and group assessments, although you may claim credit for skills and experience you already have enabling you to complete your course more quickly.

The course assignments range from reports and research studies to realistic and challenging projects with an emphasis on teamwork and initiative. Your units will include Exploring Business (internally assessed), Developing a Marketing Campaign (externally assessed), Personal and Business Finance (externally assessed), English Legal System (internally assessed), Recruitment and Selection Process (internally assessed) and Managing an Event (internally assessed).

How will this course be delivered?

The Level 3 Business Foundation Diploma is both a theoretical and a practical course and will be delivered through a range of teaching methods including lectures, guest speakers, workshops, exams and trips. The lecturers are highly experienced with many years working in industry. A successful year 1 will allow you to progress onto year 2 to complete your Diploma.

How will I be assessed?

You will be studying via a variety of assessment methods including role plays, presentations, written reports, posters, displays and video clips. You will be working on assignment briefs designed by expert tutors, using employer's feedback to ensure the content is up to date. We work closely with many local employers.

How do I get a place on the course?

You will be interviewed by a member of the course team who will consider your predicted grades and reasons for applying etc.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need 4 GCSE's at grade C / grade 4 or above which must include English, or a BTEC Level 2 qualification at merit or above. You will be interviewed by a member of the course team and you will be expected to bring a reference.

What else do I need to know?

You will be required to manage your time effectively to ensure that you meet hand-in dates. You must also make use of a memory stick to back up your work and will also be expected to participate in course trips.

What can I do after this course?

Successful completion of year one will enable you to progress on to the L3 Extended Diploma which you would complete in the second year. Alternatively, you can also obtain an apprenticeship or move into employment.
