Where will this course lead?

If you have a passion for catering and hospitality, there is no better place to study than at SUAC. This course will equip you with practical catering skills to enable you to pursue a career in the hotel and catering industry. You will also have the opportunity to gain work experience in the College restaurants. When you apply, our expert staff will assess your knowledge and ability and ensure that you are offered a place on a course and level that is right for you, from Level 1 to Level 3. Opportunities to work at international and celebrity events are exciting features of this course, as is working alongside guest chefs from the top echelons of industry. You are encouraged to gain extra first-hand knowledge of your craft by taking a part-time job outside College hours. 

What will I study?

This course enables you to develop advanced culinary skills. These include specialist kitchen, larder and patisserie work. The course has a strong practical bias, which includes practical workshops and cooking gourmet dinners in the College's own highly rated restaurant. You will be encouraged to enter national competitions and have the opportunity to undertake work experience in some of the country's top hotels and restaurants. 

Students who already possess cookery skills are able to develop these through intensive practical sessions, production and competition work, and industrial placements working alongside some of the UK's top chefs. You will have the opportunity to help in the preparation of gourmet meals at the College with guest chefs.

The course features: careers guidance, personal tutorials, demonstrations by professional craftsmen and the opportunity to gain trade experience.

Professional Cookery Preparation and Cooking Level 3 NVQ Diploma City and Guilds

How will I be assessed?

Assessment of your skill acquisition is continual. You will work towards an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery (including patisserie and confectionary).

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered following an informal interview.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need one of the following:
• NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation with industry experience at an appropriate level
or
• VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery 

Applicants with a high level of practical skills but no formal qualifications are also welcome to apply.

What else do I need to know?

You will continue to develop your English and Maths skills at Stratford-upon-Avon College.
If you join us with…
• A* - C grade / 9 - 4 grade GCSE
You will study your Core Qualification while continuing to develop literacy and numeracy skills.
• D or E grade / 3 or 2 grade GCSE
You will enrol on a GCSE resit class and prepare to retake the exam. All students are subject to diagnostic testing and in some circumstances students who have achieved an E or 2 grade may study a Functional Skills qualification.
• F or below grade / 2 or below grade GCSE
You will take an appropriate Functional Skills course, a recognised qualification and stepping stone to develop your skills in readiness to retake your GCSE at a later point.
