Where will this course lead?

This is an introduction to English that's designed for adult learners who've not yet achieved GCSE Grade A*- C, or Level 2 Functional Skills and now wish to obtain their first qualification in the subject; however, the course will also support learner's potential for progression onto GCSE Grade A*-C, or Level 2 Functional Skills thereafter.

What will I study?

  • Develop understanding of basic numeracy and literacy
  • Review essential knowledge to carry out every day and more complex tasks
  • Learn the importance of accuracy

4 weeks distance learning (1 workshop & 3 assessments)

What qualifications will I get?

Level 1 Certificate in English

How will I be assessed?

Assessments will be marked by an allocated tutor who will provide you with detailed feedback. You will be assessed against criteria where all learning outcomes of the course have to be covered; your tutor will give you guidance for this.

What are the entry requirements?

No specific entry requirements, but an initial assessment will be completed at enrolment and one workshop will need to be attended, at Solihull College & University Centre's Blossomfield Campus.

What else do I need to know?

You must be aged 19+ and have lived within the European Economic Area (EEA) for at least 3 years. You must be based in England; however some postcode exclusions apply - please enquire for confirmation of eligibility. In addition to this, please note that participants cannot be currently enrolled on an apprenticeship or higher education training programme.

These courses are fully funded at zero cost unless they are not completed and learning materials are retained by the learner; please note that in these circumstances, there is a £125 fee.
