Where will this course lead?

This qualification is for learners wanting to extend their knowledge, skills and behaviours associated with plumbing and develop their abilities to become successful in the Plumbing industry.

Our qualifications can lead directly into employment, offering learners the chance to develop their skills and knowledge to a high standard recognised by the industry. Learners may also progress from the Level 2 qualifications straight through to Level 3 or on to an Apprenticeship.

You will study installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems, above ground drainage pipework (copper, plastic, low carbon steel) and plumbing science.

Structure of the construction industry, environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings and site preparation in the construction industry.

How will this course be delivered?

The course runs for 1 academic year and involves practical work and assignments that are undertaken in the workshop. The workshop-based aspect of the course involves progressing through a variety of task set out within a training task manual. This training prepares learners for their Practical Assessment tasks.

There are also classroom-based theory lessons that are focused on delivering the theory and underpinning knowledge to enable learners to prepare for their Knowledge Assessments. The Knowledge Assessments are paper based assessments that accompany each unit.

The course delivers the basic skills and knowledge required to start to progress towards a trade recognised qualification within the plumbing industry.

What qualifications will I get?

City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies (6035-02)

How will I be assessed?

There are 10 mandatory units to complete within the qualification - Each of the 10 units has a Knowledge Assessment that is a paper-based assessment. This assesses the learner's underpinning knowledge of the topics in each unit.

8 of the 10 units each have a series of Practical Training tasks to prepare learners to undertake the Practical Assessment tasks. Each of the practical assessments is graded by the tutor/assessor.

How do I get a place on the course?

Complete the college application form and undertake an interview.

What are the entry requirements?

You will require successful achievement of a Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing and minimum of 2 in GCSEs English and Maths grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C).

Alternatively successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification and have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths.

What else do I need to know?

You should have an interest in Plumbing Studies and be able to work with your hands in a safe manner. You will be required to provide safety boots and appropriate clothing to wear in the workshop, and your own appropriate study equipment. Task Manuals and course materials are supplied by the College, which will need to be completed by you, the candidate.

What can I do after this course?

On successful completion of the Level 2 you could progress onto an Apprenticeship Standard 3 programme if you are able to secure employment in the Plumbing sector.

Learners who have a proven high standard of attendance and demonstrated a positive attitude can be recommended for any apprenticeship opportunities that may arise.
