Ground Source Heat Pump Systems Non-Refrigerant Circuits Level 3 Award BPEC
Where will this course lead?
This qualification covers the principles, design, installation, and maintenance of ground source heat pump systems that do not involve refrigerant circuits. It is aimed at experienced plumbing and heating engineers looking to upskill in renewable technologies.
Learners can progress to roles installing and maintaining ground source heat pump systems, supporting the transition to low-carbon heating solutions. The course also provides a pathway to further qualifications in renewable energy technologies and can enhance employability in the growing green energy sector.
What will I study?
- Background to the ground source heat pump market and its role in low-carbon heating
- Types of heat pump collectors and their applications
- Principles of heat distribution in ground source systems
- System design, installation, and commissioning processes
- Maintenance requirements and fault-finding techniques for ground source heat pump systems
How will this course be delivered?
Delivered over 2 days, this course combines classroom-based learning with practical demonstrations. Learners will engage in tutor-led sessions, group activities, and hands-on tasks to develop the skills required for safe and compliant installation of ground source heat pump systems.
What qualifications will I get?
BPEC Level 3 Award in Ground Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-Refrigerant Circuits)
How will I be assessed?
Written theory exam and observed practical assessment covering installation, commissioning, and maintenance tasks.
How do I get a place on the course?
Entry onto the course is subject to a short interview with the course team, where your experience, interests, and career goals will be discussed to ensure the course is the right fit for you.
What are the entry requirements?
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in plumbing or conventional heating engineering OR a minimum of 3 years' relevant industry experience
PEC Water Regulations Certificate (or equivalent) is recommended
G3 Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems Certificate may also be required for MCS registration
What else do I need to know?
· The course will require substantial self-study to stay on top of the assignments and technical content.
· Time management is essential, especially when balancing practical tasks, written assessments, and independent learning.
· 100% attendance is expected to ensure no content is missed, as sessions often include hands-on activities and assessment preparation.
· Learners should be prepared to engage with technical manuals, industry standards, and design calculations outside of taught sessions.
· Access to a laptop or device for digital resources and assignment completion is recommended.
What can I do after this course?
