Business students ace Marketing competition

18th March 2026

Business students from Stratford-upon-Avon College recently took part in a marketing competition against other local colleges and impressed with their eco-friendly pitch.

Students Ryan Clark, Serena Kang, Bayleigh Stubbins and Lucy Whatcott, from the College’s Level 2 Business course, travelled to BMET’s Sutton Coldfield College. The competition, in partnership with Colleges West Midlands, asked teams to create and pitch a marketing campaign and present to a panel of judges.

The students created a sustainable clothing line called Trend Trove. As well as creating an impressive campaign including TikTok videos and a photo shoot, students also made physical items to present. They pitched ribbon roses as part of a Valentine’s Day range and ear warmer/head warmers as new fashion statement pieces. People loved the items so much that they took them home.

The students were delighted to receive the runner-up position with the positive feedback being that their marketing was realistic, affordable, and popular.

Serena enjoyed the experience: “It was great getting to go into another environment and see how other colleges work. Just getting out of the classroom and giving it a go!” Bailey added: “All the work we do in class has supported us in the competition. The assignments have helped us with our presentation skills and we knew how to research properly to get our target audience right. It was really fun to do.”

Business Lecturer, Leyah Zafeer, detailed why these types of experiences are beneficial to the students: “It has allowed them to use elements of their classroom learning such as branding in real life. It also helped them develop a range of transferable skills including presenting, problem solving and team building. I think they did fantastically well! They put a lot of effort in, and everyone worked so well as a team.”
