The College already offers Level 2 and 3 qualifications in Digital Media Production, so introducing a higher-level course will allow learners the chance to progress, as well as welcome external students who have completed A-Levels or other Level 3 qualifications elsewhere, and mature students looking to progress or change careers.

The HNC will enable students to gain experience and prepare themselves for stepping directly in to the world of work, career progression, starting an apprenticeship or moving on to further study.

The College’s Media facilities have been utilised by a wide range of learners and industry professionals. Many Digital Media Production students have developed skills that have advanced their careers – including examples such as moving into BBC apprenticeships and working on hit gameshows. Partner Solihull College & University Centre’s creative Bootcamps trained participants for working with multi-camera filming – leading to offers of work in the industry – plus the facility was used by world-renowned theatre company the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) for broadcasting wrap around segments for one of their shows into schools.

The practical qualification will develop skills in scriptwriting, production and technical skills, cinematography, audio and visual editing, multi-camera TV production and more, which can prepare learners for work in a range of industry areas including Drama, Documentary, Content Creation, Multi-Camera TV Production and Live Broadcasting.

Head of Creative Arts, Philip Watson-Smith, is delighted to be offering this new qualification, especially with the growing demand for training in this area for adult learners: “We are introducing the HNC in Film and Television to meet clear progression demand from our successful Level 3 learners and to respond to growing industry need within the screen sector. Our Bootcamp success has shown clear demand from adults seeking structured progression into film and television careers. Expanding Level 4 provision supports lifelong learning, career changers, and regional workforce development while positioning the college as a creative industry hub for learners of all ages.”

He also details the benefits for learners: “Students will work on live briefs, collaborative productions, and industry-style projects that mirror professional practice. The course offers opportunities to specialise, build a professional portfolio and showreel, and engage directly with industry through guest speakers and employer partnerships.

Furthermore, a Level 4 qualification develops advanced technical skills, professional behaviours, and industry-ready confidence, providing a strong pathway into employment or higher study. At Stratford-upon-Avon College, students benefit from industry-standard facilities, experienced tutors with professional backgrounds, strong employer links, and personalised support within a professional production environment.”
