Mayor cuts the ribbon at Electric Vehicle Training Academy

17th July 2025

Stratford-upon-Avon College recently held an official launch event for its new Electric Vehicle Training Academy.

The ribbon was cut by the Mayor of Stratford, Cllr Dani Hunter, at an event with staff, students, local businesses and members of the council present.

The project was funded by Stratford District Council who awarded the College £625,000 in 2024 as part of the UK shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

With growing demand for electric vehicles in the industry, the facility will allow the Motor Vehicle team to upskill students and give them the knowledge to succeed in the changing industry landscape.

Head of School for Motor Vehicle at the College, Lee Kirk, commented: This is really looking to the future and the big dominance EV vehicles will have. We’ve very close links with local employers and through the employer forums we ask local industry what it is they’re looking for in regard to professionalism and work-readiness from our students.”

Student Samuel Withers reflected on his time at College. He commented: “It’s brilliant, there are fantastic facilities here and I had a lot of fun. I prefer working with my hands rather than sitting at a desk. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone else who wants to go into a hands-on industry.”

One of the College’s top priorities is to add green and sustainable skills into the curriculum across its subject areas as part of its wider sustainability goals.
