19th March 2026

A Sport student from Stratford-upon-Avon College is quickly making a name for himself as a top contender in Go Karting after winning a series of international competitions.

Lucas Blantford, 16, who is in his first year of the Sport course, is showing that he is a serious contender in Go Karting, claiming the SuperOne Senior Rotax 2025 Open Championship and recently becoming the first ever Tillotson Racing Senior Asia Cup Champion. This last win means he will now head to Valencia for the 2026 Nations Cup to represent the UK.

Lucas started Go Karting in 2021. Since then, he has steadily progressed, being invited to competitions which have increased in frequency to competing multiple times a month, and since 2023 has been racing in competitions worldwide including in Italy, Spain and the Philippines.

Alongside his incredible Go Karting performance, Lucas is also developing his skills and qualifications through his college course. He feels it compliments his training very well: “The course allows me to learn a lot about nutrition and injury management, so it is helping me develop myself and my skills.”

He also hopes that in the future he can support other Go Karting athletes in a similar way: “I would love to create a training programme in Go Karting and implement this in the sport; helping drivers learn about nutrition etc and how to support their racing.”

So, what’s next for Lucas? A whole lot more racing: including the T4 Euro Cup, which will see him travel to Italy, Ireland and The Netherlands. Lucas is excited for what’s to come: “The future is exciting, with the euro cup traveling to three others tracks around the world to showcase my skills but more importantly, three chances to prove myself.”

Sport Lecturer, Enrique Cardenas, is incredibly proud of Lucas’s achievements: “Lucas is a highly motivated student who successfully balances a demanding national and international Go-Karting schedule with his academic responsibilities. From the beginning of the course, and through close communication with his parents, the college has adopted a flexible approach to his timetable and assessment deadlines to support his participation in multiple competitions.

This flexibility has allowed Lucas to remain fully committed to his sporting career while working toward a sport qualification that complements his long-term professional aspirations in the field. His ability to manage both high-level athletic commitments and academic expectations reflects his maturity, determination, and strong personal discipline.

Lucas is on a promising path, and I am confident that the skills and knowledge he continues to develop will support his future success within the sports industry.”
