A Graphic Design student is well on her way to becoming a film creator like her idol Tim Burton thanks to the help of animation skills learnt at Stratford-upon-Avon College.

Georgia Eaton, 17 from Redditch, is passionate about creating stop motion animation movies and is delighted to be taking the next step towards her dream career by accepting an offer to study Animation at Falmouth University.

Georgia has always been obsessed with films and initially considered studying Media. But she realised that the types of films she wanted to make were stop motion in style, inspired by famous director Tim Burton who is known for his incredible creations such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie and The Corpse Bride.

College has supported and developed Georgia’s passion throughout her time on the Graphic Design course. She comments: “I like being able to do my own thing. School was so specific about what you had to draw and how, whereas here you have a much broader range of what to try and how to create it. It has allowed me to expand my creativity, try out more mediums and encouraged me to be brave when trying new styles. Plus, we went on a trip last year and actually saw a Tim Burton exhibition. It was amazing, and this course did that for me!”

Going to Falmouth is the perfect next step for Georgia. In just the first year alone, she will learn about animation in 2D, 3D and stop motion and she couldn’t be more excited: “The facilities are amazing, to have a specific stop motion department is so cool. And in the future, I can’t wait to see my name attached to a big stop motion film!”

Graphic Design lecturer, Helen Wright, is excited for Georgia: “It’s fantastic news and I am so glad to hear that Georgia will be going on to study animation at Falmouth University. It was clear when Georgia started the course she had a passion for animation. During our assignments, Georgia was able to explore her interests in more detail which gave her confidence to apply to study animation at some of the most highly competitive universities in the UK. I have no doubt whatsoever that Georgia will carry on developing her animation skills and I can’t wait to hear about her progress in the future.”
