Daisy has always wanted to be an Artist. After realising that staying at school after GCSEs wasn’t for her, she searched for other options. Her sister had studied Psychology, Criminology & Law at the College and Daisy realised that this was also the perfect place for her.

She chose Graphic Design as a course as she initially thought she would like a career in animation. However, the diversity of topics covered and the range of mediums she learnt about on her course opened her eyes to a whole world of new possibilities.

A recent project for a Penguin publishing competition involved creating new front and back covers for books. This project brought together two of Daisy’s great passions: graphics and books.

She applied to Falmouth University to pursue Creative Writing & English and is pleased to have accepted the place: “My dream is to write a book and design its front cover. Graphic Design at college and now Creative Writing & English at university is the right set of stepping stones for me to get there. I’m so excited to go to university in Falmouth and to be able to expand my horizons and start to live my life!”

Daisy credits her course for showing her a possible future career: “Projects I have done here have provided me with so much experience. I developed my poster style from my very first project and made a comic last year which helped me in my creative writing. It really has allowed me to expand my creativity.”

Graphic Design lecturer, Helen Wright, is proud of Daisy’s journey: “We cover a range of projects which enables our students to look at what it means to work in the creative industries and what different opportunities there are for individuals who are wanting to pursue a career in this area. Daisy’s interests became clearer during the second year of the course. We explored what fanzines are and how artists and writers have been using this platform to share their ideas with a wider audience. This experience has clearly influenced and inspired Daisy which is wonderful to see. I am sure that Daisy will continue to explore ideas and interests investigated at Stratford-upon-Avon College at university and beyond.”
