Five talented film directors from Stratford-upon-Avon College have received nominations for the Royal Television Society’s Young People’s Film Festival.
Creative Media students Lucy Goddard, 18 from Redditch, Toby Jones, 17 from Swalcliffe, Ellie Coombes, 18 from Stratford-upon-Avon, Ingo Lyle-Goodwin, 18 from Banbury, and Joe Monaghan, 19 from Stratford-upon-Avon, have all been nominated across a range of categories, celebrating achievements including narrative directing and documentary filmmaking.
As a College assignment, the gifted filmmakers were tasked with producing a short film and then submitting their finished work to the Young People’s Film Festival.
A two-minute clip of each nominated film will be screened at the ceremony, taking place in Sunderland on Wednesday 16th May, before the winning film for each category is screened in its entirety. The winning students will be presented with a commemorative certificate on the night, and the College will receive a trophy.
Ingo Lyle-Goodwin is nominated for two awards including Best Drama. His narrative film God Save us All, a dystopian political drama about the rise of right-wing political agendas, was inspired by the campaign for Brexit. Ingo commented “As a country, it just seems we want to go back to the old ways and we’re blind to any improvements. I really enjoy exploring controversial points of view.”
The up-and-coming director is in no doubt that the College’s Creative Media course has helped him to develop as a filmmaker. Ingo continued “It’s really helped me when it comes to collaboration with other filmmakers. I started the course thinking I could take on every role on a film set. Now I’ve realised directing is more about delegation and finding the right person for a particular job.”
The nominations follow on from the College’s success at last year’s awards when three films were nominated for the Best Director of Drama category and Alex Eves, 19 from Stratford-upon-Avon, won Best Director of Drama.
