Students from Stratford-upon-Avon College recently joined forces to create stunning pictures during an outdoor photoshoot, engulfing Dance and Music students in haze to create shots which will be used to promote upcoming shows.
Eighteen students from across the Music, Dance, Backstage Production Arts and Photography departments united and combined their skills to create a set of fabulous photos to reflect one of the Performing & Production Arts departments productions called ‘Dance ROCKS’.
The task featured a range of interesting challenges. Dance and Music students are wonderful performers on the stage, but performing for a camera is an entirely different skill. Photography students regularly take photos as part of their course, but this time had to work outside with the extra challenge of utilising tools such as smoke bombs.
The students enjoyed themselves and got a lot out of the project. Dance student Sasha Bond really enjoyed the collaboration and learnt a lot: “Collaborating with the photography department was good because I had to learn how to communicate my own ideas on how I wanted the photos to look, but also needed to listen to their ideas/requirements. As the “model” I can’t see what the entire photo looks like, so it was really important to listen to what they’re asking of us, such as eyelines and specific placements to catch the right light.”

Photography Lecturer, Kimberly Malins, was pleased with the process: “The students all worked incredibly well together to create an amazing set up. Using all of their combined skills will create professional outcomes. This is a very beneficial experience for all students to gain industry experience!”
