College launches new Pre-Internship course

14th July 2026

Stratford-upon-Avon College is delighted to launch their newest Foundation Learning offering: the Pre-internship programme, which will help to support and develop the confidence and skills of learners before advancing to an employer-based Supported Internship.

With applications now open for September, the pathway provides an ideal stepping stone for learners who would benefit from additional support on their journey towards employment.

Pre-Internships and Supported Internships are designed and tailored specifically for supporting young people with special education needs and disabilities (SEND) transition into sustained, paid work.

With incredible success from the Supported Internship programme, Programme Manager of Foundation Learning & Supported Internships, Nina Charles, is excited to be bringing the Pre-Internship programme to the College. She comments: “Our new Pre-Internship Programme will create an important bridge between education and employment. It will offer learners the support, guidance, and practical experiences they need to become work-ready, while opening doors to progression onto a Supported Internship. Working alongside employers allows students to develop vital skills, gain confidence in professional environments, and demonstrate their abilities in real workplace settings.”

Following completion of a Pre-Internship, students can then progress to a Supported Internship which is primarily employer based, with a dedicated job coach assigned to support them. These have been incredibly successful, with the College benefiting from a range of incredible local employers to facilitate these experiences, including Stratford-upon-Avon Crowne Plaza, Compton Verney, Birmingham Airport, Newlands Bishop Farm, Citizens Advice Bureau and more. Students have then gone on to a range of exciting routes on completion, including paid employment and university routes.
